The blackbirds in the garden have been very vocal particularly in the evenings of late. Consequently the song below has been going round and round in my head! We have quite a number of these cheeky garden birds nesting in and about the property – a thriving population. I just wish they were not quite so fond of guzzling my soft fruit in the summer!
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise,
You were only waiting for this moment to arise,
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Songwriters: John Lennon / Paul McCartney
Oh blackbirds – such a beautiful song and beautiful drawing …. We seem to have imported them – I wish they wouldn’t rake up my garden and cause havoc though! Ros

I don’t mind the raking too much. Better than the rabbits I have eating the daffodils at the moment! 🌺

Beautifully painted. Black is so difficult. We have loads of black birds in our garden. I always think give it a go in painting them but never find a way to give it forms instead of just black all over.

I used quite a bit of Payne’s grey, phathlo blue and cerulean to start off and give the bird some “sheen”.
