Bit of this and a bit of that . . .

Firstly, I must share with you that Art Group had an extremely successful exhibition. Everyone exhibiting sold something, which was really encouraging.

Our oldest group member (90 years) was thrilled to sell a little acrylic painting of a brown and white dog which, which I am told, he has rolled out at every previous exhibition; it has gone to hang on a wall in Austria no less! I sold a mountain landscape to a Dutch gentleman and five other assorted watercolours went more locally. We seemed to have a goodly number of overseas visitors dropping by to take a look.

The picture below was bought for a golden wedding anniversary present for a keen walker.

I called it “A welcome break”.

We were all in very good spirits when we packed away and the church, which is our venue for the exhibition, had a nice little sum for their upkeep fund from commission on the sales.

I have had several outings lately with very kind friends as I am still not driving. This has included an afternoon visiting “open gardens” in a nearby village and an evening at the opera. The gardens were well worth the visit- all very different in size and style and each beautiful in its own way. I came away clutching a deep purple flowered tradescantia (a bargain I could not leave behind) and a very full feeling after magnificent tea and cake in the last garden.

The opera was just superb: “Don Pasquale ” Welsh National Opera’s modern version currently on tour nation wide. I haven’t laughed so much in ages.

Don Pasquale has a kebab van in Cardiff. The singing, acting and versatility of the performers was a delight. The story changes and libretto were so clever at capturing the Welsh idioms (Wenglish), current issues (veganism for one!) and culture of south Wales. Along with that, the inclusion of up to the minute music genres, woven into Donizetti’s score, made for an hilarious and unforgettable performance. Brilliant! So good I hardly noticed the discomfort of sitting in one position for so long.

Thanks for dropping by.
