In art group recently it was thought we should concentrate for a session on rivers, water etc. We occasionally work on a collective ” challenge ” as I have posted before.I chose to work from a photograph I had taken a couple of weeks ago whilst walking the canal.
I was really pleased how the reflections had worked out in this painting , as it is a while since I tried working at still, flat water (although the colours on the scan, particularly the greens, are not very true to the original. ). I used really good quality paper which makes a tremendous difference in being able to move the wet paint around and “lift out” paint when necessary. I also find my small sponge invaluable for creating foliage effects.
By contrast over the weekend I worked on a view “with ponies” probably now destined for the bin, as it is ver over worked. I am not at all happy with lumpy looking foal and nothing seemed to ” flow” as I wanted. Same paper and paint. One to “reflect ” on and try again!
